Any suggestions for a budget red dot? Someone mentioned the tru glo in a recent post. Fifty bucks is pretty cheap, but is it any good? Looking for optics for shorter ranges. No more than 50 to 80 yrds.
Slight change of topic.
Anyone ever heard of vortex? Their optics are relatively inexpensive, but are they any good?

Checkout primaryarms.com. The sell stuff from other manufacturers, but they also have their own stuff. They have received a lot of positive reviews and praise for their Aimpoint clones (M3 and Micro Dot). Just do a search and you will read a lot of good info. |

Some of the clones are actually made at the same factories, like generic milk just a different label. |

I have a BSA and a Tru Glo Red dot and I like both of them. They are both between $30 & $50, and both have been excellent sights. |

Do they hold their zero? |

+1 for the Primary Arms. I have a red dot and a x3 mag from them on an AR. Great budget buy. |

The BSA is on my sluggun and the Tru Glo is on my wife's Mossberg, and I have never had a problem with them losing zero. I sighted both in on the shotguns 2 years ago, and when I checked them last fall, it took 2 slugs. First slug to see if it was still on, and a second slug to confirm what I already knew with the first slug.
I think that for the money they are excellent. The other nice feature is each has a red dot or a green dot. I prefer the green. |

If they hold up on a shotgun I think they'll do just fine.
Thanks,

That was my biggest fear when I bought them, but they hold up well. The only time I had to re-zero the BSA was when I dropped my shotgun.
Right now my buddy has the BSA on his turkey gun and is shooting 3 1/2" mags out of the turkeygun with a gellyhead turkey choke. It has had about 20 rounds through it and still holding it's zero just fine.
Needless to say, I plan on purchasing another one for my new Remington 1300!! |

I've not had experience with Vortex Red Dots, but their riflescopes are rock solid. Optics quality and durability are a cut above their price point ($100-$2000). I haven't priced their red dots lately, but thought they were about $200. For that much, I'd look hard at the IOR Edge.
Tru-Glo is hit or miss. It's all Chinese stuff, same as BSA, NCStar, etc. For .22LR, they should be fine. I have a TruGlo reflex on my Ruger Charger and its held zero just fine, but the optics are marginal. Definite parallax problems with cheaper glass. |

I ordered an aimpoint clone from china last year. And I am pretty impressed at how well it holds zero on my ar-15. I think it was 80 bucks or so but took 3 weeks to get there. |
