So from my research Short barrel rifle are legal in Illinois now since august of 2011 or so. You can possess a rifle with a barrel less then 16 inches but has to have an over all length of 26 inches. You can acquire one if your part of a reenactment group and have a membership card, or posses a C&R license issued by the BATFE. You can make one of these using an ATF form 1 "Make and Register a Firearm" or buy one from an SOT, and it will transfer to you on and ATF form 4 Application for tax paid transfer and registration of a firearms. Both these forms require a $200 tax, and for individual applications you'll need fingerprint cards, passport photos, and Chief Law enforcement signature. If you go Revocable trust of LLC you will not need finger prints, photo of CLEO sig. I hope you guys like this informations, I know last time I posted NFA stuff info on here I caught flak for it. Im not an illinois resident but i used to be I though I would pass this along. I own Many NFA weapons and I'm glad |

Well then you wouldn't have a short barreled rifle, along as a rifle has a a barrel of 16" and an overall length of 26" its isn't subject to NFA. The point of this is that now in illinois you can own SBR, and AOW now. Thats two NFA type weapons that are allowed in Illinois. Again, a bull pup isn't a short barreled rifle, hey maybe you guys will get CCW, and maybe they'll allow sound suppressors, or not seeing is how thats been panning out lately in illinois. Good luck, i was only sharing this info |

Thanks for the info, do you have a reference relating to 2011 when SBR and AOW became legal in IL? If true, I'm shocked that this state governor signed it. Thanks again. |

Ahh, yes, the illusive Bullfetus rifle configuration. |

The link below is for SBR, but remember they have to meet a certain length barrel, and overall length. AOW's where never outlawed they have always been legal. IE Pen guns, Cane guns, Serba super shorty, Ithaca Model 37 Stake out. Pistols with forward grips, or any smooth barreled pistol with a barrel less than 14" in length fall under AOW. AOW is just a catch all category so its pretty wide ranged. Im a former Illinois resident, and I know how it feels to be in that state. I have a very vast knowledge when it comes to weapons controlled under the National Firearms Act. If Illinois would have allowed legal possession of NFA weapons I wouldn't have moved after getting out of the USMC. I own SBRs, SBSs,(1) Machine gun(cause there so expensive), and suppressor, the only thing i would like to get other than a MG is a M203, but there illegal in Missouri. I guess I can live with that. Also remember when it comes to SBRs being legal it depends on Local and county law as well, that is because illinois doesn't have a firearms preemption, so every municipality can put further restriction on Firearms.

Unless they are antique's, for example 22rf cane guns made before 1899 are still legal as are "pen guns" that have to bend to fire. |

Your misunderstanding this, those antique weapons don't fall under NFA and were removed during the passage of the 1968 GCA and during the 30 day Amnesty period to unregistered weapons. AOW's are legal to own and build with the proper tax transfer and registration in the state of Illinois. But if I'm misunderstanding you please clarify. I think the pen guns your are taking about are the one that take a pistol like shape. Im talking about AOW pen guns commonly known a Zip Guns |
