yeah, my foid address is in the city. Don't want that to ever come up as an issue/violation. I've never had an issue ever buying anything before, but I respect the wishes of the shop. I think these raffles are a great idea to raise money for a good cause. |

I just sent my buddy an email asking if he knew exactly what the law states for City of Chicago residents. I will get back to you. I know before he mentioned if we were to do a handgun, if it comes with a Hi-Cap mag and won by a Chicago resident, that we would have to swap out that hi cap mag for a 10rd mag.
i'll let you know what i find out. |

As far as the law goes, there's no law that says an FFL dealer can't sell anything to a Cook County or Chicago resident based on their laws. Because even if you live there, that doesn't mean you can't own a banned gun or accessory and keep it outside of the city.
It is up the the discretion of the gun dealer of course. We would always encourage all gun dealers to abide by the law and not discriminate against Chicago/Cook County residents.
For ICarry's handgun giveaway, we always allowed Chicago residents to register and we would have allowed them to win and our FFL dealer would have done the transfer for them just fine. It's the buyer's (or winner's) responsibility to follow the "laws" of cook/chicago. None of those statutes affect FFL dealers.
Also, something else you may consider is not asking for FOID information before the winner is chosen. What we did was require full name and address. The name and address of the winner must match exactly the name/address on their FOID. If the winner didn't follow these rules and messed up the name/address, tough luck. That's why we chose backup winners. Same thing for if the winner went to have the gun transferred to them and they were denied the transfer because of FOID or something else, next winner.
Luckily we never had to go to a next winner. Our winners all had valid FOIDs, info matched, and NICS and everything went through. Just some thoughts/suggestions on doing these raffles. |
