I think the politicians/lawmakers have purposely blown PTSD way out of proportion just for the sake of gun control. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can occur when a person experiences or witnesses a tarumatic event/experience. It is common with combat vets, cops, firefighters, EMS, and crime victims. It simply means that the afflicted person has recurring thoughts, nightmares, or is more vigilant. The inability to forget bad experiences or having nightmares is NOT mental illness. Now if a person views their neighbors or everyone on the street as "the enemy" or they think they are in an overseas war zone instead of Chicago or Peoria, that is not PTSD but Schizophrenia. Very big difference between the two. Being cynical and overly suspicious can be associated with PTSD so therefor most cops have a form of PTSD. The police are still armed and also have the authority to restrict anyone's liberty and freedom. Technically..., a traffic stop is an arrest because one's liberty has been temporarily limited or stopped.

Persons with PTSD have recurring thoughts or dreams involving bad or frightening experiences. It has nothing to do with mental disease or defect. I knew a guy in high school who lost half of one leg in an accident with a tractor/bush hog. I imagine something reminds him of that accident on occasion.., but it doesn't mean he is crazy. The majority of people have either witnessed or experienced some sort of traumatic event. Does this mean that most of us are crazy? I believe that Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is all to often looked upon as Schizophrenia or Psychosis. The liberals are the ones who are crazy! If PTSD can cause you to lose your Second Amendment right..., then car wreck victims and tornado victims can be disarmed.

I too am an Afghanistan Vet from 04, i am also a VFW Post commander, what you need to do is get a hold of the VFW Service officer that is at the VA that you go to. if you PM me i will give you the name and the number of the person at the VA that you go to. Some of the veterans that i talk to have told me that it can take as much as 15 months for a claim to be completed, cause they have at least a 12 month backlog of PTSD claims. But please PM me and i will get you the info, or i will give you my number and i can give it to you over the phone.
