i have seen this on other forums but it is hard to find at times,so ill make a quick version of how its done for anyone that might like this simple mod.
things you will need.
1. 1/8" 4-40 set screws
2. a 4-40 tap
3. t handle tap wrench (for the tap)
4. 0.050 allen key
5. blue loctite
6. ar lower
unfortunately i didn't think to do before and after picture so i will update pics hopefully when my new lower comes in (if it doesn't already have the hole tapped)
what you need:
close up of set screws:
step 1: remove spring from rear takedown detent hole
step 2: tap(thread) the hole far enough down for the set screw to set flush, then blow excess shavings out
step 3: cut the length of the set screw off of the spring (approx. 1/8")
step 4: put spring back into takedown detent hole (cut side up, or your own preference)
step 5: put a little loctite on the set screw and screw into takedown detent hole being extremely careful not to let the spring fly out while trying to set the set screw
step 6: enjoy hassel free stock switches
finished:

I don't get what you are modding and why. Could you explain a little? |

if you can see where i put the set screw in the last picture... there is a pin and a spring in that hole, when you remove the stock and end plate that spring can pop out and go flying or get bent, so this set screw is put in to retain it and not have to worry about it when changing stocks or anything else that may require the removal of the end plate.
here is a link to the orginal post i found awhile ago http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=395777 |
