Yes, you can conceal carry or open carry on your property or on other private property with permission from the owner. For example, ICarry has hosted two successful, well-publicized open carry events in Illinois on private property.
Disclaimer: Be aware that if you open carry you subject yourself to easily-scared neighbors who may call the police about a "man with gun." Police can harass you with some of their catch-all charges when they want to charge you with something but you haven't really broken any laws. For example, they could throw disorderly conduct/disturbing the peace/resisting arrest at you to see what sticks. Illinois is not a firearm friendly state, unfortunately.
You cannot conceal carry or open carry on public property or on someone else's private property without their permission. |
If I have my gun out and I'm inside my garage, can the cops still harass me? I am "inside" on my property. |

Sure they can. Remember the guy on his porch in Kenosha, or was it Racine? Anyway, he got harrased and arrested. Of course he eventually won $10,000. Just because it's legal doesn't mean that you can't get arrested for it. |

I pray that would happen to me!!!!! I have the time and the means to go the whole "nine yards" after everyone involved!!
I ain't harping at you about it, but look at what you just typed.........it's legal, and got arrested for it. How can that be?????? Why even waste the time writing these laws down on paper, if they can/will arrest you for following the law??? What are these stupid or is it arrogant prosecutors/judges thinking??? That's essentially saying what for President "El BJ" said in the Monica thing..........."it all depends on what the meaning of is, is".
I got a bud on the Round Lake Beach PD. He tazed some putz a while back. Totally good shoot/taze. The putz still sued the town and got money out of it. That's even with being found guilty on everything they arrested him for. How effed up is that????? He was found guilty and still gets a pay day!!!!! We try to do everything on the up and up, and get screwed for it. |

1) I know you aren't harping on me. Seriously, you can get arrested and even prosecuted for FOLLOWING THE LAW in IL. Heck, just read Shaun's story.
2) As far as your wife goes. I had 1 pistol when I got married. My wife wasn't into guns at all, but she was ok with me having it. Then I started buying more firearms, and taking my safety as my own responsibility. When I started OCing at home and container carrying out and about she was VERY nervous. Fast forward 18 months and she has her own Walther P22, likes going to range with me, and likes to watch gun shows with me (Top Shot, Conceal and Carry School, etc...). She takes her, and our son's, defense seriously now. She's OCed up in Wisconsin. She's got her own PA permit, has Mean Green spray on her key ring. She doesn't container carry, but maybe she will in future. I am convinced that she'll conceal carry when we are out of state, as she just got her PA permit.
Giver her some time. |

Awesome Tyler! My wife just told me she's starting to get use to me OCing a few minutes ago, but when we have company over I don't think I'll openly carry...I gotta find an in-pants holster for that. I saw some at Gander Mountain today (PRICEY AS HELL!).
There is hope...lol |

Ok, I'm about to beat a dead horse here...
I know, by law, you can OC/CC on your own property...loaded or unloaded. However, I assume that means holstered. What if, for instance, you engage in any of the following activities:
- draw that weapon
- want to check out your new 24x scope on a rifle in your back yard
- practice drawing your pistol
- project a laser sight across the street
- clean your guns on the back porch
- etc...you get the idea
Does that constitute "brandishing a weapon" (if there is such a thing) and is that legal on your own private property? |

IDK, but I do clean my firearms outside in the summer time. No police yet, and I live in a typical suburban neighborhood.
I don't OC when company comes over right now, but I will in the future. Well, I OC when family, and certain friends come over, but for those that I don't know well I CC at home. This is mostly just in defference to them. It's the whole meat sacarificed to idols thing, if you know what I am talking about. Basically, I don't want to offend them. I figure as I get to know them more, and we become better friends, then I will OC. |

I don't know about all that meat stuff, but I'm unappologetic about carrying in my house. It is my house and anyone unwilling, unable or just plain too stupid to understand our rights can leave. Sounds harsh, but I got tired of giving the big long shpeel about how FOID cards haven't prevented any crime, gun laws haven't reduced the number of armed criminals, blah, blah, blah...
Also, there are young family members at my house frequently. All other firearms are unloaded and locked, but I still carry. I grew up around guns and respected them; as should modern day kids.
Maybe my attitude is a little harsh for some. But that's how my dad was and how I was reared and trained.
This might be a little off topic, but I recently watched "The Wild Within" on Discovery (I think). The host does a fantastic job of explaining why we hunt. |

I have two questions.
1. @ Tyler, what is this Conceal and Carry School show you mention? Sounds like something I'd be interested in.
2. If you guys get a Utah class put together, can we get it on a Sunday? I word all the days that most Utah classes are being help.
Thanks,

When Dear Leader Maobama got anointed as leader of the once free world, my wife "I think we should get more guns." Damn, I got a good woman. She went to college in Minnesota and saw hunting as commonplace. She's wanted to go to the range, but with a 2 year old and a new born, and me working an afternoon shift, it's hard to find time to drive 45 mins to the closest range. Damn I hate Daley, there used to be a nice little pistol range about 5 min away but got shut down by the Chicago bull$h!t, and it was like 3 miles from the city limits. |
