Well, I have been wanting a storage solution for my Mossberg 500, so that I could have quick access to it in case of emergency, yet it would be secure from little hands.

This "safe" is not intended to stop determined thieves, it is only meant to secure my firearm from the curious. That said, it is screwed to two wall studs with 6 2" screws, has all screws interior to the safe (i.e. you can not disassemble it without it being open, and I even modified the padlock so that the padlock has no play (i.e. no wiggle room so that you can't even slightly open it when the padlock is on).

I know that mossberg makes a wall mount that secures the action open and restricts anyone from getting to the tube magazine, but I like to keep some extra rounds on a butt stock sleeve, so I needed something that totally enclosed it.

I also didn't want something that cost a lot of $$$$ or that took up too much room. I made this for around $50, and it is exactly the dimensions that it needs to be. I also just used some white paint that I already had. It really was about $30 before I got the black foam to add to the interior. That wasn't needed, but hey, I like a nice looking "safe."

Anyway, if you have any questions about making your own just let me know. Again, I wanted a quick access way to secure a shotgun in my closet.

Sorry about all the clothes, but it is my closet. Yes those are belts next to it, yes that is my field jacket from when I was in the Force, and yes that is a red latigo leather strop on the bottom left.

Unfortunately the way the mossberg is facing you can't see the stock saddle with 5 more rounds safely stowed away.

My setup includes a remote pressure activated light and two sets of 5 rounds which break down as - #4 bird, #4 bird, 00 low recoil buck, 00 low recoil buck, 00 low recoil buck

Thats a nice set up, I really need to get a safe one of these days. Ive been eyeing the Stackon's or the inexpensive ones at Cabelas.

I think if you moved it over to the right some , push your clothes over, install it, then push them back it would make it look less obvious but you did a great job.

That's REALLY cool Ty...Thanks for the idea...are you going to keep your AR in there as well, looks like there's room for 2...I would keep a couple extra boxes of shells (of your choice) in there as well if I were you.

Steve - no, I actually want it exposed. It's for SHTF situations, so I want fast access. Again, it's not meant to stop robbers, it's meant to stop curious fingers.

Cola - it's got 5 rounds in the mag and 5 more in the stock saddle. I also have my Glock 21 (45 acp) with 27 rounds of Federal Hydrashock in a quick access safe nearby.

If 10 shotgun rounds and 27 45 rounds don't do it then I'll be in trouble for sure. Then again, I can fight my way to the first floor safe or my basement safe.

nicely done. I just bought my first (hopefully of many) safe, and just need to find a few extra people to help me lug it up three flights of stairs to my condo. I don't have a picture of it, but one of my buddies built a "display" cabinet to hold his mossberg and a machette, and the glass says "In case of zombies, break glass" stenciled to look like the fire extinguisher font. Free time can be dangerous.

Looks good Very Happy

Wish I had room to do somthing like that in the closet. I would like to build a false wall in one end so it is basically hidden unless you know that it was there. Between the wife's stuff and my few clothes, I barely have room to hang empty gun cases.

I just found one of these. This would be a much more practical combo lock and much better in an emergency or in the dark.

Would you be able to load/unload with that on? I need not only the firearm, but also the ammunition secured as I have a toddler around the house.

That looks great. This safe just caught my eye as a bedroom closet quick solution type of safe. I like that it installs in a corner where there are bound to be 2X4's and opes silently with a touch pad.

It holds a single handgun and one or two long guns. I am thinking of a MOSSBERG 500 as well.

They call it the Home Defense Center:
