According to this brief article (http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/83626547.html), a son tried to rob his mother last night (he claims it was a prank, the police aren't so sure) and she shot him. Twice. Serves him right.
MILWAUKEE - A prank turns to terror on Milwaukee's north side.
It happened when a 21-year-old man thought it would be funny to scare his mother when she got home from shopping Thursday night.
He put on a ski mask, confronted her behind their home and pretended to rob her.
That's when she pulled out a .357 revolver and fired several times.
Her son was hit at least twice by bullets, one of them to the groin.
He is in the hospital this morning, but there is no word on his condition.
Officials say they discovered two guns on the scene of the shooting in the 3700 block of N. 13th Street.
Now one of the newspaper commentators has a "what do you think?" blog going (http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/83657727.html?page=all&commentSubmitted=y&refresh=47958#comments)
Some of the comments are supportive, most point out that the son is an idiot, and a couple are jumping on the mom for having a gun and (gasp) actually USING it, instead of just waving it at her attacker. I've posted a couple things.

I saw a different version of the story that said that the cops aren't buying his story that it was a prank. So he very well may have been trying to rob his own mother...
In either case, this is definitely a fine nomination for the Darwin award. I give it a +1 for the nomination.
There should be a Darwin award for people who stupidly de-select themselves so to speak...and a separate award for someone who gave it a damn good attempt but didn't succeed.
This situation would be a nomination for the latter. Pretending to rob your own mom and not realizing she carries a damn .357... is just as stupid as actually trying to rob your mom. Don't rob people, and don't even "pretend." or you may be getting one of these two awards! |

Joke or not it was criminal assault with a deadly weapon, assuming the second gun was his.

Whether the kid's story checks out or not, the article does, in fact, exist.
This story is a lot more believable than others I've seen that have turned out to be true.
As for my thoughts, I guess I don't care either way whether it was a prank. The kid's a tool either way.
As far as the mom, I'm glad she was ready to protect herself, but I'd be curious as to whether or not she had a flashlight ready with her gun, or if she just shot at the first thing that moved... |
