This would seem to be on point.

Quote:
(430 ILCS 65/3) (from Ch. 38, par. 83‑3)
Sec. 3.
(b‑5) Any resident may purchase ammunition from a person outside of Illinois. Any resident purchasing ammunition outside the State of Illinois must provide the seller with a copy of his or her valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card and either his or her Illinois driver's license or Illinois State Identification Card prior to the shipment of the ammunition. The ammunition may be shipped only to an address on either of those 2 documents.

Just drive on up to WI. I live in Illinois spend a great deal of time in WI and buy ammo up there all the time. The first time I bought ammo I pulled out my FOID to show them and they laughed. Over the years I've never been asked for FOID, ID, etc.

In the past, I've ordered .223 rem ammo from Cabela's through the mail. I've even had it shipped to a Cook County address. Place the order as usual on the web site. Then contact customer service. They'll give you a phone number to fax your FOID over. Once they have it on file, you can go ahead and order more anytime. But, I think you still have to call customer service before they'll release the order for shipping.

Of course, I don't know that every online or mail order place will do it the same way. I'd call them and find out what the story is.

Now that Cabela's has the store in Hoffman, I'll probably just have it shipped there and go pick it up. At least then you save the shipping cost, which can be considerable if you're getting a lot. The stuff is heavy and considered "hazardous", so extra shipping costs apply. Before they had an IL store, it made sense...but now you'll have to pay IL sales tax and shipping if you order from them.

Peace.

Drive to WI, no hassle, no nothing. ANd WI is generally cheaper on ammo than IL. I have wondered if there's some strange unknown tax on firearms stuff in IL. Prices in Lake County are RIDICULOUS. A $200 Tokarev goes for $450? I don't think so. Glad I brought my own ammo when I qualified... By factory Blazer Aluminum was $16 for 50. RELOADS were $25 PLUS!!!!!!!!! Something's up and I don't like it.

Is this added on to the normal tax? This would explain it.

But does it mean that after the $42.50, you have to add X% local sales tax?

Up here, I pay $500 for a gun, tax is $25. 5% sales tax around here.

That's funny that this statute is written this way. It is non-binding to out-of-state residents. Illinois residents may be forced to provide the FOID and request it shipped to the address on either the FOID or state ID, but out-of-staters cannot be held accountable for selling without it. They are not under Illinois jurisdiction.
