I am not anti-gun. I am pro-gun. I think everyone has the right to carry a firearm and to protect themselves and thier family from harm with deadly force when neccessary. What I don't agree with is someone pulling a deadly weapon when they don't even know who they are pulling it on. There was obviously enough evidence to show that this woman was attacked. My issue with Mr. Liu is that he was irresponsible with this right and he attacked the wrong person. He just ran up to the first person he saw that matched the discription his girl gave him. It was the wrong person. This in turn, allowed the real perp to escape.
I apologize if you felt I was attacking the president of this organization. I was not. I came across this forum by accident and think it is a great resource for those who believe in the right to carry. Just as you do not like to see people attacked for no reason, I don't either. This young man was called a rapist in the letter, when in fact he is not a rapist. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. He dropped a friend off at the hotel who was visiting from out of town and he had to pee. So he went in, and when he came out..well we all know what happened then. |

Happilymarried - I'm glad that you are Pro-gun because your first post is how most of the anti-gunners respond to stories on here. That is why we assume that you are anti-gun.
As for this story, I still reserve judgement because I don't think that I have enough facts in the case. If what is in the letter posted is true, then a terrible injustice has been committed by the police, the states attorney, and the criminal justice system in general. However, if what you are saying is true, then I feel that a crime still has been committed by the police for not catching the right guy, but that the Mr. Liu got what he deserved.
All I know is that there are not enough facts on here for me to make a solid judgement. I do appreciate that you posted back to explain what you were saying better. I agree that you are most likely pro-gun because if you were an anti-gunner, then you wouldn't have responded.
All this being said, I want to welcome you to the forums and I hope to hear more from you in the future. |

Let me play devil's advocate here. If Mr. Liu had heard that the suspect was armed and from what happened he was dangerous. He saw a man that fit the description. Maybe he was nervous or scared. Or his adrenaline was going like a leo's. What I'm saying is wouldn't a leo do pretty much the same thing. They hear a decription of the perp and that he is armed and dangerous. The first thing they are gonna do when they arrive on scene is look for someone that matches the description. If they see someone that matches it are they or are they not going to at least reach for their holster? That is my question. I realize that I may be wrong, but I want to clear this up. I also realize that we don't know all the facts either, so we are going on speculation. |

So basically, you did the very thing to "happilymarried" that you oppose being done to your friend. You attacked him and then labeled him "anti-gun". Then you followed it up with a generalization that if a new person on this site disagrees in any of their first posts that they are anti-gun.
I can only hope that being new myself that when I disagree with someone, that I will not be "assumed" anti-gun and given the same respect that you fight so vigorously for your "friends". |
